Case:
Airbus
Faster Throughput Time and Increased Production

French Airbus, alongside Boeing, is the world’s market-leading aircraft manufacturer. In 2017, the company delivered over 700 aircraft. OCS has supplied conveyor systems for four new assembly lines at Airbus’s facility in Toulouse.
Need
Airbus needed flexible and ergonomic assembly lines with shorter lead times and capacity for an increased number of assembled pylons. The solution also had to be able to handle large and heavy components without the transport taking up valuable floor space.
The pylons are automatically transported above the production area. At each assembly station, the pylon is lowered and unloaded, after which the product carrier returns to the transport height to pick up the next pylon. The four assembly lines together have 42 product carriers with jigs.
OCS was responsible for the design, manufacturing, and implementation of the finished assembly lines.
Reduced Throughput Time
Increased Number of Assembled Pylons
Oil-Free, Clean, and Quiet System
Ergonomic and Space-Efficient
Flexible for Assembling Various Pylons
Developed and Implemented According to Lean Principles
Airbus A320neo – The Solution in Numbers
- Number of assembly lines: 4
- Number of product carriers with jigs: 42
- Maximum weight per pylon: 1,200 kg
- Pylon length: 4-6 meters
- Transport height: 5.5 meters
Results
The solution has resulted in shorter lead times and increased capacity for pylon assembly. The overhead conveyor system is clean, quiet, and ergonomic, keeping the floor space accessible for assemblers, materials, and other parts of the production.
