Overhead Conveyors
What Does an Overhead Conveyor System Cost?
An overhead conveyor system is customized to each operation’s material flow, capacity requirements, and production environment. It is therefore not possible to provide a general price without first understanding the specific conditions. Here we describe the most important factors that affect the investment.
Factors That Affect the Price
- Track length and configuration. Rails, suspension, curves, switches, elevation changes, and installation affect the system’s scope.
- Number of stations and functions. Loading, unloading, assembly, lifting, and other functions affect the need for mechanics, product carriers, and control systems.
- Capacity and buffer requirements. Desired capacity, cycle time, and buffer volume determine track length, number of carriers, and system configuration.
- Load weight and dimensions. System class, from Light Duty to Extreme Duty, is selected based on load weight, format, and handling requirements.
- Automation level and flow control. Manual or automated sections, Power & Free, identification, and other functions affect the system’s complexity.
- Control systems and integrations. Requirements can range from basic PLC control to full OCS DC with SCADA, data collection, and integration with other production systems.
- Installation and production environment. Building conditions, safety requirements, installation location, and the possibility of implementing the work in stages also affect the cost.
Cost Over Time, Not Just Investment
The investment cost is only part of the total picture. OCS friction-based systems are chain-free and oil-free with low maintenance requirements. The section-based operation also makes it possible to adapt energy consumption to actual needs. Freed floor space also has significant value: space that does not need to be built, heated, or leased. How CAPEX, OPEX, and production costs are related is described in more detail on the overhead conveyor page.
Frequently Asked Questions About Pricing and Quotes
The price depends on factors such as track configuration, capacity requirements, load weight, number of stations, automation level, control systems, and installation conditions. Two systems with the same track length can therefore differ significantly in price. To provide a reliable quote, we first need to understand your material flow and requirements.
The scope of delivery is customized for each project and clearly specified in the quote. It may include project management, engineering, mechanical equipment, product carriers, control systems, installation, and commissioning.
Maintenance requirements depend on system type, complexity, operating hours, and operating environment. OCS systems are chain-free and oil-free and generally have low maintenance requirements. Depending on the system’s conditions, we normally recommend regular inspections, typically once per year. We offer several service programs: With OCS Prevention, preventive maintenance is planned, while Optimization and Emergency complement with optimization and support for more urgent needs.
Delivery time depends on the system’s size, complexity, and installation conditions, and is specified in the quote. The project normally includes feasibility study, engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Installation can often be carried out in stages to minimize impact on ongoing production.
Load weight and dimensions, desired capacity, a layout drawing, and a description of the flow. Operating hours, workstations, buffer requirements, and building conditions may also be relevant. With this as a foundation, we can develop a solution proposal. Request a quote via the contact page.
