Need

When NORD Drivsystem modernized its painting facility with the latest technology for painting its electric motors, they chose to collaborate with Heimer and OCS Overhead Conveyor System. They previously had an older solution with a chain conveyor. For the new department, they desired clean and space-efficient hanging conveyors.

NORD Drivsystem – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of drive technology for mechanical and electronic solutions – commissioned a preliminary design with precisely specified requirements. Together with Heimer, who offers systems for all aspects of painting, we developed a solution based on the requirements for the number of stations with spray booths, as well as buffer and loading needs.

Important parameters we had to consider were that the motors should be able to move back and forth to be painted multiple times, as well as sequential transport to the warehouse. From the warehouse, the motors would then proceed to six packing stations for packaging and subsequent delivery to the customer.

Solution

The solution became a system with OCS Heavy Duty overhead conveyor with loading stations that supply an automatic buffer with products before the painting station. After the painting station, the motors are transported to a storage area, where the various parts are automatically unloaded by stacker crane into the storage space. From the storage space, the parts are sent out via OCS overhead conveyor system to packaging areas in the requested delivery sequence.

Results after installation

Today, NORD Drivsystem has a clean, quiet, and ergonomic painting facility with very smooth operation, where it is possible to paint all colors with most painting programs. Furthermore, the facility’s process and technology enable fast delivery if something needs to be prioritized.
